What Is A Digital Picture Frame

As the decades past we are becoming more and more reliant on technology and this is no different for framing our pictures and artwork.  Whilst a majority of people still use and prefer traditional picture frames we now have available to us digital picture frames also known as digital media frames.

In the short these frames pretty much are what they are called.  They allow for you to display your digital images , pictures or artwork without the need for a printer or a computer. Digital picture frames are generally used to display static or stationary artwork and displays.

Digital picture frames come in a variety of shapes, sizes and colours and have many different features, some even have the ability to play videos.  These are becoming used more inside modern galleries.

The History Of The Digital Picture Frame

In the 1990’s the first ever digital picture frame was introduced. It was a screen that just allowed for the ability to accept memory cards straight from digital cameras to display images that had been taken.   Over the years as digital cameras became more wide spread and used the frame was adapted to eventually become more than just a platform to view your images.

In 1999 a second generation of digital frame was introduced that allowed the ability to connect to the internet allowing any images that could be found online or videos to be displayed.  By 2016 the third generation digital frame was released and this is the frames we see around today.  These allowing various different options to display your images and artwork with many features available, making it a very flexible and functional digital display.

Pro’s and Con’s Of A Digital Frame

Pro’s

  • Most digital frames can store and display many different images
  • You can set cycles so you can have an album playing
  • Video’s can also be played on a digital frame
  • They come in various sizes and shapes and offer high resolution display
  • You can have music playing to really add to you image display
  • Can be a unique way to display artwork

Con’s

  • The frames can become very expensive depending on your needs
  • They constantly need to be plugged in so are using power even when not being looked at.
