Getting Creative

So many people enjoy getting creative and upcycling many things around the home, furniture is the main thing, but you can also upcycle old picture frames giving them a new lease of life and making them look unique and modern to your home.

This is a really common thing now and some people even buy packs of cheap wooden frames to decorate and upcycle. You can really put your own creative spin on these and really add some of your personality to the way you display your artwork or memories in your home.

Comic Book Picture Frame

Start by gathering some pictures from your favourite comic books.  If you don’t want to cut up a comic book you can find images online or make copies from the book itself, but ensure these are good quality images.

plan out where on the frame you want the images to go ensuring all of the original frame is covered.  Secure the images in place using glue and then put a finishing protective top coat on, and frame your treasured memories.

Sea Shell Picture Frame

Many of us love a trip to the beach and always bring seashells home for a keepsake.  Sea shells are a lovely idea and a great way to decorate an old picture frame.

If you don’t have any laying around from a beach trip you can source these cheaply online.  You can add colour to them by painting the shells fully, or partly with a nice pattern. All you need to do is choose what shells you want to use, lay them on the frame in a design that you like and then when you are happy secure them to the frame using a hot glue gun.  Once fully dried you have a unique and pretty frame to use to display your memories.

Colouring Pencil Picture Frame

We all have old colouring pencils hanging around in the home, and these can look really effective as a frame, it gives some colour and fun to an old frame.

Gather up your old pencils, measure the frame and cut very neatly your pencils to fit around the frame perfectly.  You can use just the middle part of the pencils or you can incorporate the coloured led tips too.

Use a hot glue gun to secure the pencils firmly around the frame ensuring all of the frame is covered, once dry use the frame to display your memories.

Floral Picture Frames

Everyone loves to have flowers around the home, they give a colorful burst of happiness to any room. You can achieve the same effect using flowers on an old frame.

You can purchase dried artificial flowers from many arts and crafts stores as well as online.  Once you have the flowers that fit your room or colour scheme, plan out the frame.  You can do various designs from covering the whole frame in flowers to arranging a small design on one or two corners of the frame.

Once you are happy with the arrangement use a hot glue gun to secure the flowers in place.  Display your memories in the frame.

This design gives a feel of elegance to the frame and really brings an old frame to life.

Button Picture Frame

Whether you have old buttons laying around or you go to a craft store to get some, decorating an old picture frame is fun and really brings it to life in an inventive and charming way.

It’s so simple to do, you just need buttons in whichever colour you decide, this can be to a colour scheme or you can mix it up and have multiple colours, they can also be various sizes and shapes.

Once you have your buttons selected you need to plan your frame, lay out all the buttons where you want them to be so all the frame is covered, you can also add things into the gaps like glitter or bows if you want to really mix things up.  Once you are happy use a hot glue gun to secure everything in place.

Display your memories in the frame you have created.
